Handmade Christmas

Although I am already finished Christmas gift shopping for this year, I have started planning for next year (I know how crazy that sounds!). I was talking with a friend of mine and her family is only giving handmade gifts to one another. I loved the idea so I started looking into possible gifts that I could make. I cannot knit or crochet and am not particularly crafty but I am willing to try. I am thinking that next year might have to be a handmade Christmas!

For the person who loves to garden or cook- chalkboard labelled herbs (grown from seeds):

For the home store shopper- wood trivets:

For the indian food lover- curry mix:

For the entertainer- cloth napkins:

For the person who loves a good soak- lavender bath salts:
For the person who has everything- a chalkboard:

For the cheese lover- a wood cutting board:

For the sushi lover- a sushi board:

For the kitchen lover- fun tea towels:

For the girlie girl- a pendant necklace:

Wood Cutting Board Gallery Wall

I love the look of old wood cutting boards...

And (although I could only find a couple of photos of this online) I would like to create a gallery wall using the boards...

I found a cutting board that I really love at an antique store recently and created a mock version of what my kitchen wall will look like when I collect more...

Master Bedroom Makeover- The Plan

I am FINALLY getting around to making over my master bedroom. It was the one room in the house that we, more of less, just moved our things into and left.

Here is my plan:

1) creamy white walls

2) a gallery wall above the headboard- mixed black, gold and wood frames

3) a few gold accessories- to blend in a piece of art with a gold frame that was a gift and is never going anywhere

4) a linen lampshade

5) hits of wood to warm up the room

6) curtains over woven blinds on the window

The Sink Dilemma

Stu and I agree that we want wood counter tops for our kitchen. Where we disagree is at the sink. He wants a white ceramic farm sink and, although I love the look of them, I know that they stain quite easily. Jenn (who has one) has said that you can bleach them to get the "new look" back, but I would prefer not to pour bleach into my septic system. I would prefer and under-mount stainless steel sink that, after a simple abrasive scrub, looks brand new again.

Love this one...

What a Difference a Little Green can Make!

In a feeble attempt to provide some more shade (and greenery) to our deck, Stu and I added 4 x 5' cedar trees to our existing planters. I was shocked to see how much better the deck looks with them. I'm still not sure how much shade they will provide but they do look nice...

Mix & Match Dining Set?

Stu and I were talking recently and we agreed that neither of us really like our dining chairs. I think it is the black- they look too busy. Stu suggested that we paint the dining chairs a colour that will provide less contrast with the rest of the room- maybe the wall colour? Now I am thinking...

Here is the dining set now.

Now the mix and match- table and chairs inspiration.

If in the end I don't like the way it looks I can always paint them black again!
