DIY Project One- Bistro Chalkboard
What you will need:
- a piece of thin fiberboard cut to the total size you would like the chalkboard to be (the frame will be glued onto the fiberboard)
- scrap pieces of trim for the frame
- a piece of 1x4 pine and concave moulding for the chalk ledge
- any colour paint for the frame and brush
- chalkboard spray paint
- MDF letters spelling anything you want (this one is in a kitchen so BISTRO seemed appropriate)
- chalk
Putting it together:
1. Cut the trim to the appropriate size and miter the corners.
2. Using wood glue connect the mitered corners. Use wood fill to disguise any imperfections in the corners.
3. Cut the pine trim and concave moulding to the same length as the frames width.
4. Glue the concave moulding to the edge of the pine trim piece.
3. Paint out the frame and chalk ledge (a minimum of 2 coats).
4. Spray the fiberboard with the chalkboard paint (3 coats seemed to do the trick).
5. Glue the frame to the fibreboard.
6. Once everything is dry, glue the chalk ledge to the bottom of the chalkboard.
7. For simple hanging, use the 3M picture hangers to fasten the chalkboard to the wall.
8. Glue the letters to the top of the chalkboard frame.
9. Leave a piece of chalk resting on the chalk ledge.
